News from Cookieland
October 2006 Better late than never eh? The last few months have been quite exciting. I did a fabulous performance at the Remington's Review and substitute hosted for Gladys Kravitz at Tuesday night Kararokee at Windows and ran in the annual high heel race. I also celebrate the victory of Adrian Fenty and visited the brand new BeBar on 9th street. It is a nice loungue and I love what they have done with the lighting. The crowd is a good mix of the usual DC boy which I suppose is good for a laugh now and then but I really do miss the craziness of Nation. I also miss the influx of gay clubbers from all across the region that chipped away at the cloniness of the DC scene. Don't get me wrong, I love my clones and I realize that not everyone needs to be as crazy creative. (I'll leave that to NewYork) But, I think the DC scene will need a breath of fresh air and I hope that Be Bar can pull it off.
I had a perfectly enjoyable trip to Ft. Lauderdale and have to recommend that anyone traveling there check out the Friday night party at Chyna White. Talk about a fun party. Great music, cute boys and crazy drag queens with live microphones for narration. It reminded me of the old Tuesday night retro parties at Cobalt pre-fire when Ed Bailey spun his eccletic mix.
I am looking forward to checking out the Apex Follies on Saturday November 4, 2006 which will be a reunion of the Ziegfields girls.
Keep being fabulous everyone.
September 2006 O.k. O.k I know. Its been awhile since I've updated the website. There are several reasons but none good. I finally got my hands on a good web page software program and promise to update the site more often. There are several big things going on in my wonderful life. I am so pround to support Adrian Fenty for Mayor and hope everyone votes early and often. The other major thing that has happened is that after 7 wonderful years, Velvet Nation closed for good in July. A lot of people have wondered where Cookie is going after the closing and honestly I don't know if I am going to be in one particular place like I was at Nation. I took the entire month of August off and have contemplated going into semi-retirement but realize its hard to keep a good bitch down so I will continue to be out/about until I find my husband. My apologies for the lack of new content but keep checking back as I promise to try and make more updates.
March 2005 A belated happy new year. Life has been rather hectic these last few months. I am now an elected official. Or more accurately, my non drag persona was elected as an ANC Commissioner for the Logan Circle Neighborhood in DC. (Visit www.christopherdyer.com for further info.) I am pleased to announce that I will be co-hosting and performing again at the 2nd Annual Wig Aid on April 2, 2005. Things are there usual fabulousness and I am glad winter is over so I can start wearing short sleeved dresses again. Its the little things.
October 2004 DON'T FORGET
TO VOTE!!!!!!! It is with pleasure that I officially endorse John Kerry
for President. He isn't perfect on our issues but he is much better than
the current ruler of the free world who supports writing discrimination into our
constitution. In other news, I have had a busy summer. I had the
good fortune of traveling to Berlin, Prague, London and Oslo and let me tell
you, the gays are the same everywhere. Although the London boys did seem a
bit friendlier. But I digress. I found out that the readers of the
Washington Blade have voted me the Favorite Drag Performer in Washington DC this
year.
Click here for more info. This award means a great deal to me.
It is especially nice because unlike other drag performers in DC I don't have a
regular show that I perform at. I just show up. Its nice to get the
recognition and I thank all of my fans for their support. Don't forget to
vote.
May 2004 Happy spring everyone. After a long winter, I have awakened from a hibernation of sorts and have finally gotten around to posting an update. As many of you know, on May 17th, same-sex partners will be able to get legally married in Massachusetts. Woo Hoo! Of course, if you live in a state that doesn't recognize same sex marriage, you are out of luck until either the Supreme Court rules in our favor, (which they eventually will), or we all get off our duffs and start raising hell on a state wide level. But I digress. Marriage equality is pretty darn important. It will take me a long darn time to find a husband and when I do, I want legal protection. Enough said. I have been rather busy going on long hikes, dancing at Velvet and occasionally looking at the boys of Secrets and Wet. I am going to be out of town/out of country the second half of May but will be on the scene full force in June. Don't forget to attend Wig Aid on May 15. It should be a barn burner.
December, 2003
I've been so excited about recent developments in our movement's fight for
GLBTQ equality that I haven't been able to update this site. That sounds
like a lame excuse but that's what I am sticking with. The later part of
2003 has been fabulous. I spent the better part of August traveling to
Chicago, Aspen and points beyond. In September I went to Sacramento and in
October, I spent two glorious weeks in India. Highlights of my life in DC
include the fabulous High Heel Race in which I was interviewed and heard on Jack
Diamond in the Morning on MIX 107.3. I have also enjoyed several Saturdays
at Velvet and have done comedy at Titan and SoHo. I would like to think
that I will be more vigilant in updating my web page, but realize that it
probably won't happen. Happy holidays to everyone and please take a moment
to sign the petition on www.millionformarriage.org.
Thanks.
July, 2003
Greetings for Cookieland. What a month. I am still basking in the afterglow of the Supreme Court decision in the sodomy case and from the fabulous profile that was done of me in the Washington Blade. Thanks to everyone who has congratulated me. It is truly an honor to be recognized. The other exciting news is that I've begun to attempt a comeback in my stand-up comedy career. I made a few people laugh at an Open Mic at SoHo Coffee and Tea on the 5th and will be doing it again on August 4. Loads of fun. In other news, Velvet continues to be a whole lotta fun. Manny Lehman turned out and incredible Blue Velvet set and the Foam Party was scandalous. Other excitement includes a few surprise trips up to Philadelphia for the Friday night party at Shampoo. I must admit that I still don't know why they call Philly the city of Brotherly Love as there was an enormous amount of attitude but what can I say. The other excitement was a deck warming party at my friends Kevin and Don. See www.kevinanddon.com for details.
That's all for now.
June, 2003
Hello everyone. I have finally returned and survived the Capital Pride season so that I can focus on more mundane things such as web site updating, sleep and worrying about the state of man. Just kidding. Actually, pride season was wonderful darlings. The good folks of the community voted me a Capital Pride hero. It allowed me to ride in a fabulous car during the parade and I also was blessed with the opportunity to be the emcee of the main stage of Capital Pride for the first two hours. It was inspiring to stand on stage and see our community stretch six blocks with the Capital dome behind me. We are a truly amazing site to see and it warms my heart. And its an honor to be recognized as a hero.
Now on to more night clubby things. In case you were living under a rock, you missed three incredible parties back to back to back at Velvet Nation in June. Thunderpuss, Manny Lehman and Junior Vasquez all spun and for those of you who aren't "hip to the DJ scene", I will explain that basically, DC had 4 of the top 5 DJ's in the club world spin in a row. In the centuries of my clubbing, I don't think there has ever been a hotter line-up in DC and I wanted to give a public shout-out to all of the promoters of Velvet Nation for making the last three weeks in a row, incredible. I also want to extend a very special shout out to the host of Velvet, Sister Face. For those of you who missed Tracks, Sister has been entertaining club goers in DC for the past 200 years. She was one of the first "drag queens" to extend her hand to me when I got a start and its wonderful having her back at Velvet. To paraphrase a famous showtune "Hello, Sister, well hello Sister, its so nice to have you back where you belong."
In other interesting news. I apparently was listed on a "blog". Check out www.vividblurry.com. I worry a bit about the owner of that blog but found his "rants" to be quite amusing.
Speaking of rants, I am almost on the verge of unleashing a new one about some of the stupidity that has been ocurring in our GLBT civil rights movement of late. Apparently, we are more concerned in the press about whether or not a U.S. Congressperson is gay or straight, then the fact that we are still systematically denied our basic civil rights in most states and are on the verge of an historic landmark Supreme Court case that will either move us forward or set us back.
We need to get a bit more vigilant boys and girls. We still have a long way to go to achieve equality in this country and honey we deserve it. Keep up all your fabulousness folks and with that I will go back to fixing my hair.
May 4, 2003
Well, obviously I haven't been as diligent in updating my page as I had hoped. Highlights of the last three months include, a fabulous performance at Youth Pride Day. Co-hosting the Drag Queen Karaoke at Cobalt and raising just shy of $500 for charity. I have also been on the road to Paris (out of drag) to visit and I saw a lot of superb art. And the paintings at all of the museums were also pretty nice. I digress. I continue to find good times at Velvet on Saturdays and the renovations at Apex are very nice. (But I still long for the good old days of Badlands and the little disco boxes that I used to dance on.) The major other piece of news is that I have decided to launch a little project to raise money for charity in our community. Cookie Cares is my way of giving back and to hopefully secure more gigs performing for my beloved fans.
February 23, 2003
It has been said that the road to hell is paved with good
intentions. I did mean to be more diligent in updating my beloved fans
about the my fabulous lifestyle. Note the heavy sarcasm. The big
news in DC was the snow. Here are photos of the Monument in the
snow. I love living in DC.

Despite the snow, I have made it out and about to my favorite haunts. Highlights include singing songs of love on Valentine's Day at Apex and performing "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Drag Queen" at Velvet for the Chinese New Years.
The biggest highlight of the month was attending the fabulous Zach's 29th Birthday bash. Here are three pictures taken of me by the fabulous Gina Kang. I totally love some of these effects and need to find more professionals to take my photo.

Finally, I want to send a big birthday shout out to Chris "Wiggy"
W who invited me to join his huge 23rd birthday bash during the Mardi Gras at
Nation. Congratulations darling, I hope it isn't your last.
Until next time.
January 20, 2003
Happy New Year. Lots of interesting things to report. First off, I have decided to overhaul this website this year. It will be done piecemeal but its time that the Trailer get a bit overhauled and I embrace new technology to make posting a lot easier. Please bear with me as I go through this period of transition and thanks for your continued support. 2003 has been a fun year but before I bore you with details, there are a few 2002 activities that need to be noted. The main one being the LGBTQ friends of Mayor Anthony Williams Toy Drive and Holiday Party at Apex. (See picture of me with hizzoner below). Lena Lett emceed a fabulous party in which we had over 1500 toys donated. And speaking of Apex... Congratulations to Joey O. and staff for completing an incredible make-over. I will miss Badlands but Apex is much better. Speaking of Lena... for those of you who were wondering what to do on a Monday night, please run to Cobalt to see her Ladies of Delusions Drag Show at 10:00 pm sharp every Monday. It is awesome. And as always, the Burgundy Crescent Volunteers provided help at this party. (See picture below). Please consider signing up with these guys as they do incredible work for our community.
Other highlights in December include my fabulous performance at Velvet to "Blister in the Sun" by the Violent Femmes.... Several nifty holiday parties and an incredible New Year's Eve blowout.
This year has been good so far. I have stuck to my no sugar diet and have met many new friends and acquaintances. I even found love....and then it found someone else....so I found someone with the same name.... the moral being "If you can't boink the one you want, boink the one you are with" but it turns out the one I boinked seems to be more than he appears and I hope to have many a new adventure with this person as the year continues. No dear reader...Cookie is not in love....yet. But the ways of the lord are truly mysterious and I think that a Cupid is sharpening his bows.
Here are the pics of me and the Mayor, and me and the BCV folk.

October - December 2002
Well I finally settled into my new day job so I have time to update the old
website. This fall has been interesting. Highlights include the High
Heel Race in the rain, two live signing performances at the DCAC and a generally
fabulous Velvet Nation.
(Me and the Fabulous Summer Easy at the High Heel Race). Additionally, I had
the pleasure of watching Kiki and
Herb in "Pardon Our Appearance." It was insanely
fabulous and twisted in a way that DC audiences aren't used to. As a
result of this performance, I have been inspired to form an all drag Rock-n-Roll
review called the Cookie and Summer Experience.) We will be inflicting
this delicious pain on audiences some time in 2003. I think I am evolving
as a performer and as much fun as the clubs are... its time to get a bit more
creative. Favorite DJ experiences: Manny Lehman, Don Bishop (at
Velvet on 11/30), Chad Jack (a fresh face on the club scene) and I enjoyed the
DJ Ra set at last night's White Party. That's all for now.
September 2002
Thank god the summer is over. The month was fun starting with a
dreary Foam Party that kinda fizzled. Manny rocking the house at Velvet
Nation on the 7th. The boys from Kurfew invaded DC for an appearance at
Velvet on the 14th. The 21st was interesting with Joe Garantheaux from New
Orleans. And I had the honor of performing at
Dragapalozza on the 28th with the fabulous Lady Bunny. Special thanks to
my back-ups, Chris, Allen, Daryl, Ms. Loreta West, Ryan, Tommy, Matt, Sean,
Kevin, Tim and Art. I think we set a record for most boys on stage in
their underwear in one night. Delicious fun. I want to take a moment
to clear up some rumors that are floating around about Nation. No, it is
not closing yet. In part, as a result of published reports that the
military has placed the clubs "off-limits" due to a large number
of drug busts that the Navy made, the DC police staged an "undercover"
operation at the Friday night "Buzz" party on September 6. This
"operation" resulted in 8 people being arrested for selling
drugs. Because of this, the promoters decided to discontinue the popular
party so that Nation the night-club would not lose its liquor license. The
"Velvet" party on Saturday is not affiliated with Buzz. There
were no large scale drug busts at Velvet, the party is not closing down, Nation
is NOT losing its liquor license yet. Of course, there is a possibility
because believe it or not, it is against the law to sell drugs, but that is
something that will happen in the future. I am amazed at the stupidity and
the breathless "gossiping" that has been going through our
community. Get the facts before you open your damn mouth and get a
life. As far as I am concerned, Velvet will continue going for a long time
to come. I hope so, cause I really don't want to spend my Saturday
nights at Badlands or home watching t.v., unless of course it is with my
husband.

August 2002
Well they don't call them the dog days for nothing. Christ on a cross
it was hot. August is usually a cruel month for me in face because of the
heat and I get very cranky. I also usually tend to question why I do drag
by the end of summer but am renewed in September/October when the new blood
circulates through DC. All of this bitchiness aside, the significant
highlight for me in drag this month was my continued presence at Velvet
Nation. Manny Lehman, Circ de Sole, the Decades party and the Foam party
that wasn't due to the unseasonably cold Labor Day weekend, all were fabulous
parties. I also got a new day job. But other than that, the month seemed
to drag on in a mundane way so my update is brief. September and October
promise to be more exciting.
May - July 2002
Sorry I haven't updated you in awhile. I have been busy. Here is
a synopsis of the highlights of the past few months. Over the weekend of
May 10-11, I made it up to New York for the first time in several months and was
pleased to see that the Kurfew Party survived its big move to Fridays in a new
location. (www.kurfew.com) Very Faboo and I met the adorable Bryan
from Toronto among other groovy club boys. The Roxy is still holding its
own as one of the best clubs in the world. (Besides Nation) and much fun
was had. On May 18, I went to see the Pet Shop Boys at Velvet
Nation. It was an incredible concert and there were a ton of happy people
in the club. I think it was one of the better nights of the year. I
had a very "naughty" time in the Velvet Nation VIP lounge in early
June (I know what's new.) Pride weekend was incredible. I met
the glamorous Lady Bunny, Bruce Villanch and Tammy Faye Baker Messner.
(See picture below). The many highlights of the weekend included traffic
direction from the back of a golf cart. Riding in said golf cart downtown
with a
police
escort. "Go-go Dancing" on stage with my fabulous backups Daryl
S., Tim C. and Allen D. And most importantly, seeing all of the fabulous GLBT
people in DC turn out for a great weekend of pride and togetherness. We
are a very dynamic and fabulous group and we need to celebrate our pride
year-round. It is very relevant. (Enough preaching). Other
highlights in June include the infamous Foam Party at Nation, (Orgy in the foam
anyone?) and a return trip to New York City to participate in their pride
celebration. As always
the
Kurfew crew were faboo and they graciously invited me to participate in their
parade contingent. (Great fun.) I also checked out the new Phazon
sound system at the Roxy and danced my wig off to the incomparable Manny
Lehman. We love Manny!!!! DC during the 4th was fun. And I had
a great time at Velvet the weekend of July 13 (see pictures below.)
I realize as I read over most of my posts, that I seem to always have a great
time at the big Velvet Nation and I am amazed that even after two years, I still
have a great time there with all of the pretty boys and faboo music. I should
also give a shout-out to the Tuesday night crew at Cobalt. After a few
months of struggles, it seems that they have finally begun to recapture some of
the magic of the old "Clueless" party before the big fire. The Irish
Poet Dylan Thomas wrote that it is impossible to return to Fern Hill and the
idyllic pastures of youth and I am constantly reminded of that when I am in
Cobalt. If you haven't yet been, you should consider
going. And finally, a shout-out to the newest drag queen
in DC. Miss Summer Easy. It was my pleasure to escort Miss Easy to Velvet
last weekend and I imagine we will be seeing lots of her in the future. Party
on.
April 2002 DC
I got my pride back. Woo Hoo. Thank god it is now Spring.
April was a fabulous month. I finally straightened out some private live
drama and came out full force. Highlights include the fabulous Alternative
Prom that the GW Outcrowd through in April. And of course Youth Pride was
a blast. They actually let me emcee most of the day and the rain goddesses
stayed home. We had over 2800 GLBTQ youth turn out and I was able to turn
out a fabulous 17.5 minute performance with the assistance of 16 back up
dancers. Too much fun. I had to go to Richmond for business and
missed the black party. But, I was back in DC for Flashdance where I did a
spirited performance to "Mama Mia" by ABBA.

February and March 2002, DC, Aspen, Buenos Aires
Sorry that I haven't updated the page in awhile and that I was 404 for awhile. We had to renew the domain name registration on the site and needless to say, there were drag queen technical difficulties. But I am back and better than ever, or is that bitter than ever, who knows. I will admit that I hate winter. I get bummed out and even though Mardi Gras was a fabulous party this year with my new favorite circuit dj Manny Lehman, and that I met a few fabulous new friends, I am getting a bit burned out on the scene. Fortunately, I traveled, mostly out of drag, to visit my fabulous biological sister Simone, her boyfriend and her crazy co-workers in Aspen. I even hit the slopes for a few days and that was a site. I also took a trip to Buenos Aires Argentina with a quick visit to Montevideo. For all of you Madonna and Evita fans, I saw the palace and square that Madonna sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and I saw Eva Peron's grave. I must say, Buenos Aires was hip and beautiful and if I ever win Powerball, I would consider buying property. I highly recommend visiting. The exciting drag career development is a semi-regular appearance as a guest panelist on the "Blank Game", which is a take-off on Match Game. I appear three Sundays a month at Titan Bar, 1337 14th Street, and it is a real hoot. Hope you can make it. I promise more exciting news next month as the Youth Pride day happens and pride season begins.
January 2002 DC, Seattle, Vancouver, DC.
Happy New Year everybody. So far 2002 has been an excellent
adventure. It appears Mother Nature doesn't want to make up its mind and
has given us spring or winter. Not that 70 degrees in mid-January is a bad
thing. I digress. I don't think people read this web site for my
opinions on the weather. On to clubland. Saturdays at Velvet
continue to be fabulous. One of the highlights was a surprise guest
appearance by DJ Michelle Miruski. I miss her. Wet on Wednesdays is
fabulous but not quite the same.
(Here is a picture taken of me at Velvet during the New Year. I totally loved the "sex toys" that were left at the party. I am pleased to report that I did observe at least one boy blowing another boy on the dance floor and I knew it was going to be a good year.)
My big adventure of the month was a trip to the Pacific Northwest to visit my fabulous friend Macks. The gay scene in Seattle is interesting. I would say its more like Baltimore and has several nice small clubs but nothing compared to Velvet. I went out to three different bars on a Friday night and heard Britney Spear's "I'm a Slave for U" at each club. (Speaking of Britney, what is up with girlfriend taking her boyfriend to gay clubs? and what is up with this whole I'm not so innocent/slave stuff? and finally, isn't her 15 minutes about up?) On Saturday, we went to Vancouver cause a.) it was close and b.) I've always wanted to do drag in a different country. One of the many highlights of the journey was explaining to the cute Canadian border guard that yes we knew there were wigs in the back of the car and no we weren't planning on robbing any banks. We went to a club in Vancouver called the Odyssey. It was very cute. The go-go boys danced naked and hard and the rest of the boys kept there shirts on. (*darn*) Plus it seemed to me that most boys were only drunk and not on anything which was an interesting and refreshing change. I close this installment with another memorial. For those who haven't heard, DJ BUC has passed away. He was my favorite circuit DJ because he played on 3 board. A true master of the old school mix, he will be missed. But I imagine that with him, Berlene and Dominique Foxx gone, there is one hell of a party going on in heaven.
That's the news from Cookieland where the women are actually men dressed like women, the
boys have strong legs and the club children are way above average.
